Get Started

What Is Pediatric Speech Therapy?

Pediatric speech therapy helps children understand, express themselves, and connect with others.

A speech-language pathologist may support speech sounds, language development, social communication, and other skills that affect a child’s ability to connect and participate at home, at school, and in the community.

“Communication encompasses far more than verbal speech. At its heart, communication is rooted in connection and relationships.”

—Yvonne, Speech-Language Pathologist

How Speech Therapy May Help

Children may benefit from speech therapy when they have difficulty with:

Speech Sound Development
Producing sounds clearly and being understood by others.

Expressive Language
Using words and sentences to share needs, ideas, feelings, and experiences.

Receptive Language
Understanding words, questions, directions, and conversations.

Social Communication
Engaging in back-and-forth interactions, interpreting social cues, and communicating with others in meaningful ways.

Fluency
Supporting smoother, more comfortable speech when stuttering or other disruptions affect communication.

Feeding Skills
Supporting children who have difficulty safely and successfully participating in mealtimes.

“Communication grows through joint attention, gestures, body language, and meaningful back-and-forth interactions.”

—Yvonne, Speech-Language Pathologist

Individualized Evaluations and Treatment Plans

Speech therapy begins with an evaluation to understand your child’s strengths and needs.

The evaluation may include:

  • A conversation about your child’s development and your family’s concerns
  • Play-based and structured activities
  • Clinical observation
  • Standardized testing, when appropriate
  • Recommendations based on your child’s individual needs

Following the evaluation, your speech-language pathologist will discuss the results with you and recommend next steps.

What Speech Therapy Looks Like at Kidvancement

Speech therapy at Kidvancement is engaging, personalized, and connected to meaningful everyday goals

Sessions may include games, books, movement, pretend play, conversation, and other activities selected around your child’s interests. Although sessions often feel like play, each activity is intentionally chosen to support communication development.

Parents and caregivers are important members of the therapy team. We provide ongoing communication and practical strategies to help skills carry over beyond the therapy room.

Connection and Collaboration

Relationship-centered care, grounded in experience

Connection and collaboration are at the heart of our approach. We take time to understand each child as an individual and create an environment where they feel comfortable communicating, participating, and trying new things.

We also collaborate with families and other members of your child’s care team when appropriate to support progress across everyday environments.

“Therapy is most meaningful when it builds on each child’s unique interests and actively involves their caregivers.”

—Yvonne, Speech-Language Pathologist
